What do I want to do when I grow up? Well, I thought I wanted to become a teacher. I really enjoy teaching others and I would love to have holidays and summers off with my kids. But now my kids are grown up so I don't need summers off and I need money. I don't know how in the hell we are going to get through this year. We have so many expenses with the kids - Haley is graduating etc. Should I go back to Masters school? I don't know how we would survive if I took a paycut now.
Originally the plan was for us to move back to Georgetown in 4 years - when Jake gets out of college. I would get certified to become a teacher, in case jobs were scarce. Then I freaked out again in September of 2015 about my job and went through the motions to get PACE certified. I finally got my certification but now, I don't think that we could afford the pay cut. However, I would be able to get my students loans resolved. Fuck if I know what I'm going to do. I guess I could go back and get my masters right now and then worry about teaching in a few years.
Master's program:
Pros
I can defer my student loans
Centurum Tuition Assistance
Possibility of being able to teach community college classes
Evening classes
Cons
More school
More student loans
More stress and sacrifice from the family
Getting a teaching job now:
Pros
Student loan debt forgiveness
Summers/days off
Use my PACE - job now will lead to job in Gtown
Cons
Uncertainty of new job location. It could be 50 miles away.
I might suck at teaching or I might get fired
Large paycut
More sacrifice from my family
I guess I should start in the Master's program. If any teaching jobs open up in Georgetown county, I could apply and move to Georgetown. Or maybe wait until Jake is out of school?
